In 2015, the Shia community in Mumbra, along with supporters from various parts of the city, organized a significant protest to voice their deep sorrow and outrage over the destruction of the sacred cemetery of Jannat al-Baqi in Medina. The cemetery, which housed the graves of several members of the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAWS) family, including his beloved daughter Sayyida Fatimah (sa), was desecrated in the 1920s. The protest aimed to draw attention to the ongoing pain felt by the global Muslim community and to demand the restoration of these holy sites. Jannat al-Baqi is one of the most important cemeteries in Islamic history. It is the resting place of several prominent figures, including four Imams from the Ahlulbayt (as) — Imam Hasan (as), Imam Zainul Abideen (as), Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as), and Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (as). The site is also believed to be the burial place of Sayyida Fatimah (sa), the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS), although the exact location of her grave remains disputed. The destruction of the cemetery’s shrines in 1925 by the Wahhabi regime has left a lasting wound in the hearts of millions of Muslims worldwide, particularly the Shia community.
